ENERGY FROM EARTH AND SEA 2023
Generation
Information based on provisional data from January, 2024
Other renewables generated 1.7 % of overall production in 2023
In 2023, the production of other renewables experienced a significant drop of -19.9 % compared to the previous year, with declines in biomass and biogas generation (-25 % and -13 %, respectively) being particularly noteworthy. Their share of the Spanish generation mix is still residual. In 2023, it accounted for only 1.7 % of the total annual national generation.

With regard to the generation of other renewables by autonomous community, Andalusia was the community that produced the most electricity from these technologies in 2023, with 1,204 GWh, which represents 27.0 % of all the energy from other renewables generated in Spain.
In 2023, Madrid was the Spanish region with the highest proportion of generation from other renewables in its energy mix, with 22.8 %. Production from renewable waste in the Basque Country also stands out, accounting for 35.3 % of national generation from this type of facility.
Once again this year, it is important to highlight the specific case of the Gorona del Viento hydro-wind power station, which covered 34.8 % of the annual generation of the island of El Hierro with renewable power in 2023, which reached rates over 80 % of renewable coverage for 55 days. During the months of July and August, the integration of renewable energy reached 61 % and 56 %, respectively.
