Other renewables generated 1.7% of overall electricity generation in 2024

In 2024, electricity generation from other renewables saw a slight increase of 1.3% compared to the previous year, with the 5% rise in biomass generation being particularly noteworthy. Its share of the Spanish generation mix is still residual. In 2024, it accounted for only 1.7% of the total annual national generation.

With regard to generation from other renewables by autonomous community, Andalusia was the community that produced the most electricity from these technologies in 2024, with 1,484 GWh, which represents 32.8% of all the energy from other renewables generated in Spain.

In 2024, Cantabria was the Spanish region with the highest share of generation from other renewables in its energy mix, with 19.0%. Electricity generation from renewable waste in the Basque Country also stands out, accounting for 31.2% of national generation from this type of facility.

Once again this year, it is important to highlight the specific case of the Gorona del Viento hydro-wind power station, which covered 44.0% of annual generation in the island of El Hierro with renewable power in 2024, which reached rates of over 80% renewable coverage for 71 days in the year. During the months of July and August, the integration of renewable energy reached 76% and 82%, respectively.
