Other renewables generated 2.0 % of global production in 2022

After three consecutive years of growth, the production of other renewables in 2022 experienced a slight decline of -1.1 % compared to the previous year. Their share of the Spanish generation mix is still residual. In 2022, it accounted for only 2.0 % of the total annual national generation.

With regard to the generation of other renewables by autonomous communities, Andalusia was the community that produced the most electricity from these technologies in 2022, with 1,710 GWh, which represents 30.8 % of all the energy from other renewables generated in Spain.

In 2022, Madrid was the Spanish region with the highest proportion of generation from other renewables in its energy mix, with 24.7 %. Particularly noteworthy is the production of renewable waste that has taken place in the Basque Country, which represents 37.4 % of the national generation from this type of facility.

Once again this year, it is important to highlight the specific case of the Gorona del Viento hydro-wind power station, which covered 48 % of the annual generation of the island of El Hierro with renewable energy in 2022, becoming 100 % renewable for 28 days of the year. During the months of July and August, the integration of renewable energy reached 80 % and 75 %, respectively.
