In comparison with other European countries, in 2024, Spain ranked sixth in terms of energy generated from this technology. However, Spain is ranked in the lower half, in fifteenth place, in terms of the share of hydroelectric power in total generation.

These data are based on the criteria of Regulation (EU) No. 543/2013, encompassing units with an installed capacity equal to or greater than 1 MW and referring to the capacity available for System Operation, and therefore differ from the data used for the specific case of Spain at the national level, which consider the total installed capacity.
