In comparison with the European environment, the Nordic countries have been the most outstanding in hydro generation in 2022; Spain has occupied sixth place in energy generated with this technology. However, Spain ranks below the middle, in seventeenth place, in terms of the share of hydropower in total generation.

These data are based on the criteria of Regulation (EU) No 543/2013, encompassing units with an installed capacity equal to or greater than 1 MW and referring to the power capacity available for System Operation, and therefore differ from the data used for the specific case of Spain at the national level, which consider the total installed power capacity.
