EUROPEAN LANDSCAPE 2024
Generation
Information based on provisional data as of January 2025
Renewable energy sources continue to increase their presence in the generation mix.
Europe upheld its firm commitment to energy from renewable sources with the aim of increasing energy independence and achieving long-term decarbonisation of the economy, leading to a share of renewable energy in total electricity generation reaching 48.4% of the total energy produced (45.9% in 2023) in all ENTSO-E countries. The variation of renewable energy sources increased by 7.3% compared to the previous year. Solar energy, as a renewable technology, experienced the greatest growth in 2024 in relation to other renewable technologies, with a variation of 20.8% compared to the previous year. In 2024, Spain was the second country with the highest generation from wind and solar sources, only behind Germany, which has a larger generation capacity of these two technologies.
