ENERGY FROM THE WIND 2024
Installed capacity
Information based on provisional data from January, 2025
Wind energy represents a quarter of the total installed national generation capacity.
Wind power has become the second largest renewable energy generation source in Spain, with an installed capacity of 32,104 MW, a 4.1% increase in 2024 compared to 2023, totalling an additional 1,275 MW installed across the country. At 31 December 2024, wind power accounted for a quarter of the national installed capacity, ranking just behind photovoltaic solar in terms of its share in the installed capacity structure.
Annual evolution of installed wind power capacity
By autonomous community, Castile and Leon continues to be the leader in installed wind power capacity with a total of 7,265 MW, representing 22.6% of the total national installed wind power capacity. Castile and Leon was the autonomous community that experienced the greatest increase in installed wind power capacity in 2024, with 639 MW more than the previous year. Aragon is in second place with 5,659 MW, 17.6% of the total.
Wind power is the leading technology in the installed capacity structure of four autonomous communities, starting with Castile and Leon, where it accounted for 47.8%, Aragon with 45.4%, Navarre with 45.2%, and Galicia with 41.0%. These communities account for 57.4% of all installed wind power in Spain.
