ENERGY FROM THE SUN 2024
Installed capacity, photovoltaic solar
Information based on provisional data from January, 2025
Solar photovoltaic energy saw an increase in installed capacity, with over 6,000 MW newly installed, and became the technology with the highest installed capacity, surpassing wind power
Solar photovoltaic continues to be the technology with the highest growth, with an installed capacity of 32,350 MW, a 22.8% increase in 2024 compared to 2023. At 31 December 2024, solar photovoltaic represented 25.1% of the national installed capacity.
Annual evolution of installed solar photovoltaic capacity
At the regional level, Andalusia and Extremadura were the autonomous communities with the highest installed solar photovoltaic capacity this year, both with 24.3%, followed by Castile-La Mancha, with more than 22%, and further away, Castile and Leon, Aragon, and Murcia. The first three regions alone account for over 70% of the installed photovoltaic capacity in Spain. In contrast, the communities on the Cantabrian coast stand out as the territories with the lowest share of solar photovoltaic installed capacity, all of them below 0.5% of the national total.
Solar photovoltaic is the leading technology in Extremadura's installed capacity infrastructure, representing 59.8%. In Castile-La Mancha, it accounts for over 46%, and in Andalusia, it represents 37.8% of the installed capacity in this autonomous community. In Murcia and Aragon, it represents 31.1% and 22.9% of their total capacity, respectively.
