Solar photovoltaic energy saw an increase in installed capacity, with over 8,700 MW newly installed, and became the technology with the highest installed capacity, surpassing wind power

Solar photovoltaic continues to be the technology with the highest growth, with an installed capacity of over 41,500 MW, a 26.6% increase in 2025 compared to 2024. At 31 December 2025, solar photovoltaic represented 29.9% of the national installed capacity. Taking self-consumption into account, installed solar photovoltaic capacity exceeds 49,500 MW, representing a 25.2% increase on the previous year and accounting for 33.7% of total national capacity.

Annual evolution of installed solar photovoltaic capacity

At the regional level, Andalucía and Castilla-La Mancha are the autonomous communities with the highest installed solar photovoltaic capacity this year, the former with 25.7% and the latter with 20.7%, followed by Extremadura, with 20.5%, and further away, Castilla-León, Aragón, and Murcia. The first three regions alone account for over 65% of the installed photovoltaic capacity in Spain. In contrast, the communities on the Cantabrian coast stand out as the territories with the lowest share of solar photovoltaic installed capacity, all of them below 0.5% of the national total.

Solar photovoltaic continues to be the leading technology in Extremadura's installed capacity infrastructure, representing 61.4%. In Castilla-La Mancha, it accounts for over 50%, and in Andalucía, it represents 44% of the installed capacity in this autonomous community. In Murcia, the share is slightly higher, at 34.8% of its total installed capacity.
