SELFCONSUMPTION 2025
Installed self-consumption power capacity
Information based on provisional data as of January 2026
In recent years, self-consumption installations have experienced significant growth in Spain. This increase is driven by several factors, including supportive government policies, the reduction in renewable technology costs, and greater environmental awareness by the population.
As of 31 December 2025, installed self-consumption capacity in the Spanish electricity system stands at 10,915 MW. The vast majority corresponds to solar photovoltaic technology, with an installed capacity of 8,856 MW, while cogeneration installations rank second with 1,571 MW.
Evolution of installed self-consumption capacity by technology
If we analyse the evolution of installed self-consumption capacity by economic sector, all segments (Industry, Services, and Others) show sustained growth over the 2021‑2025 period, with continuous year-on-year increases and no declines in any of the sectors considered.
The Services sector stands out for its strong growth, particularly from 2022 onwards. This industry went from a relevant share in 2021 to clearly becoming the leading sector in 2025, with the highest volume of installed self-consumption capacity and a steadily increasing share of the total. Industry also shows a continuous and positive trend throughout the period, with significant growth, although at a slower pace than Services. Finally, the Others category also records an increase, albeit more moderate and stable, and reflects a less dynamic pattern compared to the other two sectors.
Evolution of installed self-consumption capacity by activity sector
The most relevant aspects of installed self-consumption capacity by autonomous communities in 2025 include: Andalucía is the autonomous community with the highest installed self-consumption capacity, with 2,006 MW, representing approximately 18.4% of the national total. It is followed by Cataluña, with 1,947 MW, and Comunidad Valenciana, with 1,530 MW, which rank second and third, respectively. Together, these three regions account for just over half of Spain’s total installed self-consumption capacity.
Andalucía also leads in installed solar photovoltaic self-consumption capacity, with 1,646 MW, the equivalent to 82.1% of the region’s total self-consumption capacity and 18.6% of national solar photovoltaic self-consumption capacity.
