ENERGY FROM THE SUN 2023
Installed capacity, photovoltaic solar
Information based on provisional data from January, 2024
Solar photovoltaic power is once again at an all-time high in terms of installed power capacity, with almost 5,500 MW of new capacity installed
Solar photovoltaic continues to be the fastestgrowing technology, with an installed power capacity of 25,549 MW, an increase of 28.0 % in 2023 compared to 2022, which means 5,594 MW more installed throughout Spain. This is the highest value of MW installed, surpassing the almost 4,686 MW installed in 2022. At December 31, 2023, solar photovoltaics represented 20.3 % of the national installed power capacity.
Annual evolution of installed solar photovoltaic power capacity
At regional level, Extremadura and Castile-La Mancha are the regions with the greatest installed solar photovoltaic capacity, with 25.1 % and 24.0 % respectively, followed by Andalusia, with more than 21 %, and then Aragon, Castile and Leon, and Murcia. The first three regions alone account for over 70 % of the installed photovoltaic capacity in Spain. In contrast, the communities on the Cantabrian coast stand out as the territories with the lowest share of solar photovoltaic installed capacity, all of them below 0.5 % of the national total.
Solar photovoltaic is the leading technology in Extremadura's installed capacity infrastructure, representing 54.8 %. In Castile-La Mancha, it accounts for over a third of the regional total, and in Andalusia, it represents 28.5 % of the installed capacity in the region. In Murcia and Aragon, it represents 28.7 % and 20.6 % of their total capacity, respectively.
