Installed capacity, photovoltaic solar
Information based on provisional data from January, 2023
Solar photovoltaic power is once again at an all-time high in terms of installed power capacity, with almost 4,500 MW of new capacity installed
Solar photovoltaic continues to be the fastestgrowing technology, with an installed power capacity of 19,785 MW, an increase of 29.4 % in 2022 compared to 2021, which means 4,498 MW more installed throughout Spain. This is the highest value of MW installed, surpassing the almost 4,000 MW installed in 2019. At December 31, 2022, solar photovoltaics represented 16.6 % of the national installed power capacity.
Annual evolution of installed solar photovoltaic power capacity
At the regional level, Extremadura is this year the region with the highest installed solar photovoltaic power capacity, with 27.0 % of the total national capacity, followed by Andalusia and Castile-La Mancha, with more than 20 %, and further away, Aragon, Castile and Leon, and Murcia. The first three regions alone account for almost 70 % of the installed photovoltaic power capacity in Spain. On the other hand, the communities of the Cantabrian coast stand out, all of them accounting for less than 0.5 % of the national total.
Solar photovoltaic is the leading technology in the structure of installed power capacity in Extremadura, where it represents 50.5 %. In Castile-La Mancha, it represents a third of the regional total, and in Murcia, it accounts for just over a quarter of the installed power capacity in the region. In Andalusia and Aragon, it represents 23.6 % and 17 %, respectively, of their total capacity.
