Installed capacity, photovoltaic solar
Information based on provisional data from 8 April, 2022Photovoltaic solar power once again records maximum historical values for installed capacity, with almost 3,500 new MW installed
Photovoltaic solar power continues to be the fastest growing technology in Spain, with an installed capacity of 15,174 MW, which has increased by 29.9% during 2021, compared to 2020, which implies additional 3,490 MW installed throughout the whole Spanish territory. It is the second highest value of installed MW, behind almost 4,000 MW installed in 2019. On December 31, 2021, photovoltaic solar power accounted for the 13.4% of the installed capacity nationwide.
Annual growth of the installed photovoltaic solar power capacity
At a regional level, this year Extremadura is the community with the most installed photovoltaic solar power, with 25.6% of all national power, followed by Extremadura and Castilla-La Mancha, both with similar values, Aragón and Murcia. Said five communities alone account for almost 84% of the installed photovoltaic power of this technology in Spain. On the other hand, the communities of the Cantabrian coast stand out, all of them being below 0.5% compared to the national overall level.
Photovoltaic solar power is already the leading technology in the structure of installed capacity in Extremadura, where it represents 42.6%. In Castilla-La Mancha and Murcia it already represents a quarter of the installed capacity of its community, while in Andalusia and Aragón it represents more than 15% of its total installed capacity.
