Ancillary services
Information based on provisional data as of January 2023
The impact of adjustment services on the average final energy price was 7.70 €/MWh, higher than the 4.23 €/MWh of 2021. This increase was due to the high prices recorded in all markets. A comparison of the share of this service in the final average price shows a slight increase in this year's price (3.8 % compared to 3.6 % the previous year).
In December 2022, ancillary services accounted for 8.7 % of the average final energy price, as more energy was scheduled due to restrictions in that month.
Weight of the impact of ancillary services on the final price
In 2022, the cost of ancillary services was 1,833 million euros, 78.8 % higher than in the previous year.
Cost of ancillary services in €M
€/MWh€
The energy needs managed through ancillary services were 3.1 % lower than in 2021. Energy scheduled for security reasons was 20.2 % lower, due to the decrease in energy caused by technical constraints on the PDBF (27.2 %), while real-time technical constraints increased by 3.6 %. The balancing energy used has increased by 14.1 %, mainly as a result of the increase in secondary regulation energy and replacement reserves.
The energy volume due to technical restrictions to the PDBF represents 29.2 % of the total ancillary services, lower than the 38.9 % it represented last year and far from the 51 % of 2020.
